Mansfeld’s Quest… be the Best!

Dear Mansfeld Families,

I want to welcome you to the 2022-23 school year! I am privileged to return as your principal and am excited to continue to work alongside our highly qualified and dedicated staff, our amazing students, and our wonderful and supportive parents and guardians as we pursue our quest to “Be the Best!”.

Last year was a big transition year. As we transitioned back to full-time in-person instruction, we were impressed by the resilience of our students, the flexibility of our families, and the commitment of our staff. Our focus last year was on building relationships and getting to know our students. This year we will continue to build on that foundation as we welcome our newest members of Bulldog Nation and catch up with our returning families.

As a STEM Plus Magnet school (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) our instructional focus is on STEM practices that are academically challenging, engaging, and relevant. Our day consists of 7 periods, so our students not only get Science, Math, Social Studies and Language Arts, but also a STEM Core Class and 2 Navigator (Elective) classes. This year, we will also be supporting our students’ success socially & emotionally with a districtwide program called Character Strong.

As your principal, I will lead each day with integrity and excellence to ensure that Mansfeld is a safe, enjoyable, and enriching educational experience for all our students. While our staff will do everything they can here at school, education is a partnership and so as partners we share the responsibility for your child’s success. We ask for your teamwork and support by ensuring that your student(s):
  1. Attends school daily, arrives on time and is ready for the day's learning experiences.
  2. Completes all homework assignments given by teachers.
  3. Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of their school life.
  4. Informs you if they need additional support in any area or subject.
  5. Knows that you expect them to succeed in school.
Communication is a key to successful teamwork and so while we will endeavor to communicate urgent matters with you via email and phone call, our Mansfeld website is a great resource in providing up-to-date information to you and your family. Please check it regularly and don't ever hesitate to call our office at (520) 225 1800 if you need more information.

This year I would like to take the time to meet with and listen to our parents and guardians, and hear what their needs and desires are for Mansfeld. I have dedicated 4 evenings throughout the year for Listen & Learn sessions that I would like to invite you to participate in. Please see the calendar on our website for details.

Last year one of the greatest challenges we faced as a school was a shortage of substitute (guest) teachers. This placed a greater demand on our teaching staff, as they had to cover classes during their planning periods. Planning ahead, I would love to invite any parents/guardians who have a bachelor’s degree, to consider applying for a substitute certificate with the Arizona Department of Education. If 90 parents did this and volunteered for just 2 days out of the school year, we would be guaranteed to have a substitute teacher everyday this year. If you are interested in supporting us with this please reach out to Donna Bowser, our Office Manager at (520) 225 1803 or email Ms. Bowser here to volunteer.

In addition, please consider joining our school’s PTSO program as our students will greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions to the school's program and its operations.

If you ever have any concerns, questions or need to speak to me or any of our amazing staff, please don't hesitate to reach out. We are Bulldog Nation!

Yours in the service of education,
