The next daily procedure is an activity called "Dictation."
Dictation simply means writing something as you hear it. In music exploration, the procedure will be that you will hear a musical excerpt, either rhythm or melody
and then write it down on the following form.
Since "clefs" cannot be heard, the dictation for this week will be the same
assignment as Daily Rhythm.

The first week is spent becoming acquainted with the daily and weekly procedures in class and being introduced to the 6 ingredients of music. Throughout the first quarter time will be spent learning those ingredients as they are the basic structure of music.
A daily requirement that helps to reinforce each ingredient is a daily activity called "Daily Rhythm." Daily Rhythm is the same as "bell work" required at the beginning of other classes. This is what the daily rhythm form looks like:
In the rectangle on top of the form is where students are to write the weekly assignment.
As there are sections from every day of the week, the students are to write a variation of the assignment, everyday.

This week, we will study what called "The Medieval Period." This time is sometimes called "The Dark Ages" or "The Middle Ages.
After the fall of the Roman Empire, civilization was existing in small groups, villages, bands, etc. Through this transition, which occured over hundreds of years, one of the few, if not the only, organized groups were the people who were associated with Christianity. The rest of the other people throughout Europe were highly superstitious and uneducated. During this time, the development of a "powerful" church created unrest and change among the populations.

Continuing with the Classical Period, late Rococo, we turn our attentions to the next musical composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart will show many incredible skills during his short life, yet none will get him a job similar to that of Haydn. However, for the short time he lived, Mozart's musical compositions
showed promise and gave much inspiration to future musicians. Haydn may have had the job others wanted but his music did not have as lasting an effect as Mozart's creations.
